The Brodhead EAA Chapter 431 will be unable to host the Annual Midwest Antique Airplane Club Grassroots fly-in for 2020.
After serious discussion and study, we have determined that we are unable to find a path to conduct our usual 3-day event with our reduced volunteer work force.
Our board of directors deeply regrets this situation.

EAA Chapter 431
Cheeseland Chapter EAA 431 Inc. has voted to cancel the 2020 Pietenpol Reunion, Hatz Biplane, and Corbin Fly-In.
Please note the following changes to EAA Chapter 431 scheduled events:
For obvious reasons, our April 7 chapter gathering is being canceled. Our scheduled speaker, Jurg Grossenbacher on “Accidents, Incidents, and Pilot Proficiency,” has been rescheduled for the July 7 gathering.
Brodhead Airport has been fairly quiet recently, and we thank John Meichtry for re-grading all the gravel driveways earlier this week. No more potholes!
We hope that all of you are staying safe, healthy, and dreaming of good flying weather.
Field Condition Report: As of Friday, 1/31, all runways have a good snow base for ski equipped aircraft.
Mark your calendar for our annual Groundhog Chili Ski Fly-In on Saturday, February 1, 2020 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Brodhead Airport.
As always, fly in, drive in or walk in for a mid-winter break and join us for some winter flying. Chili and all the fixins’ will be available in the Chapter Building for a free-will donation.
Chapter 431 has long hosted an annual skiplane fly-in in the middle of the long, cold Wisconsin winters to get local pilots out of their hibernation and join us for some homemade chili and hangar flying, and for those properly dressed, some chatting and commiseration around the fire pit. The event usually falls around Groundhog Day, so the name has sort of stuck.
Longtime EAA Chapter 431 member and EAA life member since 1969, Otis Lokken of Madison, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2020. His obituary is here:

On the same day, EAA published a video about the Lokken family’s Champ and its recent restoration. Watch that video here:
This is our fifth year of producing the popular EAA Chapter 431/Brodhead Airport full-color calendar, and this one looks better than ever. Its a 12-month wall calendar with a main photo for each month, plus smaller fill-in photos to keep you entertained. The dates for all meetings, work days, and fly-ins are listed as well.
Calendars are $15 each plus $4.00 shipping (First Class Mail). You can save on shipping and pick one up at any Chapter 431 meeting or event, or by stopping by the Kelch Aviation Museum during the week. Order online HERE.
All photos in the calendar were taken at or near Brodhead Airport in the past year. Special thanks to everyone who contributed, and to this year’s winners, Doug Tomas, Dave Swartz, Allen Penticoff, Shelly Tumino, and Nigel Hitchman.
If you have questions about ordering or picking up, or if you want to order in bulk, please call 608-897-1175 or e-mail webmaster@eaa431.org.
The board of directors of EAA Chapter 431 will meet Monday, November 18 or the annual budget meeting. Come and voice your input.
We’ll meet at 6:00 p.m. in the chapter building at Brodhead Airport.
Don’t forget that the monthly gathering of EAA Chapter 431 switches to Saturdays this month and our next one is Saturday, October 5 at 9:00 a.m. in the chapter clubhouse at Brodhead Airport.
Also on Saturday, we will hold the annual officer elections. Nominations and voting are both done in person during the meeting so come out and make your voice heard. Current officers whose terms are expiring are:
President – Ben Johnson
Vice-President – Joe Snow
Secretary – Brian Law
Treasurer – Pat Weeden
Afterward, the monthly chapter video from EAA headquarters will be shown.
See you on Saturday.
